Dear Friends of Jungle Friends,
I am writing to you from Larry’s, as we have no power, phone or water, yikes! So, please keep your emails to me at a minimum; it appears that some have bounced, I cannot retrieve them from the sanctuary. My cell phone doesn’t even work. I am very sorry that I have not been able to communicate with any of you and I know that you have been very worried, but all is well!
First, let me tell you that all the non-human and human primates at Jungle Friends are just fine and in good spirits. Not a single injury, well just a few bruises, cuts and scrapes that we humans have from angry monkeys not wanting to go into a small cage, but we can certainly understand that, they just went through this less than a month ago and they were not ready to do it again! We packed them up on Friday and let them back outside yesterday and let me tell you they were never happier! If this is a trend, we really need to work on our Emergency Shelter, anyone interested in helping us in that respect, we welcome any input you can offer.
We have a lot of fallen limbs and a couple of trees, unfortunately, one large tree fell on one of Chi Chi and Jimmy’s habitats and the runways that were attached to it and was destroyed. We promised them a bigger and better habitat, so if you would like to help us keep that promise, please send a donation for their new habitat. Other than that, we just have a lot of clean up, so if any of you are in the area and do not have anything better to do, come on out to Jungle Friends.
Our generator that we hooked up to the well only runs for 15 - 30 minutes and then will shut off. Shannon and Larry both came out to see what they could do, but could not figure it out. We have had a lot of our food spoil without power and a generator (or two), would sure make a huge difference for us.
If you are wondering what you can do to help, here is a list:
We need produce brought out daily for the monkeys (unless we get a generator)
Gasoline in large gas cans for the generator.
Pick up, wash and bring back monkey laundry (unless we get a generator)
Bottled water
Ice
Gatorade
Food for the humans who live here, there are eight of us, thank God! (vegan please)
New habitat for Jimmy Sr. and Chi Chi!!
BRING US A GENERATOR, PLEASE!
I will also send out the Jungle News that Liz, one of our interns, wrote for me to update everyone on the new monkeys, but the hurricane came and we haven’t had any power, so it never went out…better late than never.
A very special THANK YOU to all of our interns and volunteers that got us through another hurricane, you are the best!!!!!!!!
Well, I must close now and again, we are all doing fine, but any help would be appreciated. Especially if you could get a GENERATOR TO US!
Lots of monkey love,
Kari and the monks
