Dear Friends of Jungle Friends,
We are bracing ourselves for the third time in about a month for yet another hurricane, Ivan! For the moment, we have power, water and phones. We searched for a generator from South Florida to Georgia without luck however; a generator may be arriving soon! Susan and Randi, friends in Vegas, found a generator and Susan will fly to Jacksonville on Monday bringing the generator to us, provided they have flights at that time, they may not due to the hurricane. If that fails, we have our sights set on a generator at Ace if they come in on Tuesday. Sumner with Sarasota In Defense of Animals will buy it and allow us to use it during Ivan, if necessary. It looks promising for us to have a generator soon! Thank you Sumner, Susan and Randi!!
Lulu is a white faced capuchin who just arrived here about 1 am this morning. Lee and Paul drove 4 ½ hours south to a sanctuary in Jupiter Florida to pick her up. The sanctuary had just received this tiny monkey that was confiscated by Fish and Wildlife. It seems that a call came in stating that a monkey had been abandoned in an apartment, I do not know all of the details, but possibly the humans went to a shelter due to Hurricane Francis and left Lulu behind, it is unclear.
We took Lulu to the vet school this morning because she was not coming out of the sedation that she was given in Jupiter. She is still groggy, but her vitals are good. Lulu has a few scrapes and cuts, but she is terribly malnourished, she weighs only four pounds and you can feel every bone in her small body. If you are looking for a monkey to sponsor, may I suggest Little Lulu?
We will keep you posted on what is happening with Ivan and how we fair. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Ivan’s path, keep safe!
Lots of monkey love,
Kari and the monks
