Dear Friends of Jungle Friends,

GREAT NEWS...I have spoken with the laboratory regarding the NIH capuchin retirement that we have been working on for the last 6 months and Aslan, Iko, Isuzu and Gizmo (yes, another Gizmo) will be freed to come and retire here at Jungle Friends! I have the release form signed and in my hands! The ASPCA in NY awarded JF with a grant for this project in the amount of $2500, American Anti-Vivisection Society in PA awarded JF $1000, National Anti-Vivisection Society have also awarded $5000, In Defense of Animals in CA will award $1000 and an anonymous donor contributed $5000 some time ago which we used to have the indoor enclosure completed, but wait there's more...we also received a grant in the amount of $5000 from the Ahimsa Foundation which will be used for an additional habitat for socializing. The new outdoor habitats will be larger than any of our existing habitats. We hope to have the NIH boys here in 6 - 8 weeks, we will keep everyone posted as we progress. Our expansion project includes 8 large outdoor habitats and 2 large buildings to serve as indoor areas, as well as a small clinic. If you are interested in helping out with the Expansion Project (EP), please let me know and I will send you the proposal and drawings.

I want to thank our many new S-A-M (sponsor-a- monkey) people! Let's hear it for Kent and Sandy, Patty and John, Norma, Lisa, Mi Mi, Melissa, Jan, Rachel, Randi, Robin and Susan! Our sponsorship has doubled in the past year and we have over 30 monkey sponsors, we are half way to our goal! So here is the plan...if everyone who is currently sponsoring a monkey would invite a friend or relative to do the same, we will reach our goal. And of course, if any of you who have not yet sponsored a monkey could do that, that would be really great! Remember you can sponsor a monkey for as little as $10 a month. These sponsorships make such thoughtful gifts, please consider giving a gift of charity. . As for the Mobile Home Project, a very special thank you to Joan and Dianne, Wally and Penny, Angie and Henry, Laura and family, Lovette, Susan, Sharon and Leilani for their generous donations toward our new on-site caregivers quarters, we now have a total of $4170 toward the project, we are only lacking $3900 for the total move and set up (see revised breakdown below), however, we now have the money needed to get the mobile home here on site! From the time that we pull the permits (tomorrow, 1/13/02) we will have 6 months to raise the remainder of the funds to get the septic put in, hook up power and run water to it to have the final inspection. I know this is probably the worst time to be asking for donations, just after Christmas and all, but if there is any way that you can donate toward the mobile home project, we would sure appreciate it!

Thank you all for your on-going support of Jungle Friends!

Lots of monkey love,
Kari and the monks
