Baby Rosie
Baby Rosie, a tufted capuchin, arrived at Jungle Friends
November 30, 2003 when she was eight-years-old. Baby Rosie
is from a small town in Nevada and, as is the case with
pet monkeys, her owners were no longer able to care for
her. Upon arrival, Rosie was flirting with the staff and
ready for an adventure. She has also been diagnosed with
diabetes and has been introduced to several other diabetic
monkeys here at Jungle Friends and is doing just great.
Diabetes is running rampant with pet monkeys; however, we
have been successful in keeping Baby's glucose levels down.
Her disease is being controlled by diet, herbs and other
substances that will help to lower her blood sugar, rather
than insulin injections, as is the case for other diabetic
monkeys. Baby made fast friends with a large male capuchin
in her group and they have grooming sessions each day and
in the evening they can be found sleeping side by side.
