CAPPY - see Memorial

Cappy is a male black capped capuchin. He turned 30 years old in June of 2000. Capuchins can live to be over 40 in captivity, so Cappy is still going strong! Cappy was originally purchased as a pet and raised by a family for 25 years. During Cappy's lifetime, he had a female companion for 15 years, however she died from pneumonia, which left Cappy a single man.

Cappy is like most captive capuchins, in that he was unpredictable and would sometimes "turn" on his human family. Unfortunately, Cappy's human "mom" passed away and his "dad" became ill and could no longer provide care for him, so Cappy was given to a primate facility in 1995 at the age of 25, where he was singularly housed. We are in the process of socializing Cappy with some of our jungle friends. Cappy loves the Florida climate, his previous home was in the desert of Las Vegas, and the dry weather gave this poor fellow nosebleeds, which was why he was sent to a more suitable climate Cappy easily acclimated to life here at Jungle Friends, and has become a favorite among the volunteers. He greets everyone, male and female, with screams of delight and flashes a big smile, then expects a nice back scratch in return! He is affectionately known as "Happy Cappy"!

Purchase Cappy's artwork and the money will go into our Memorial Medical Fund.
