She always acts as the peacemaker during socializations and as the caretaker to all young monkeys. Connie was diagnosed with diabetes in November of 1999. Since then, she has had to receive insulin injections twice a day, and will probably have to for the rest of her life. Now that we have regulated her insulin level, Connie is not nearly as aggressive to humans as she once was. She may have felt so sick that she was simply grouchy! Her diabetes most likely resulted from her time of being a "pet" being fed human junk food and not having a cage large enough to exercise in or another monkey to play with. Connie is an extremely smart monkey and has learned that the insulin shots go much quicker with her cooperation. She is housed with Buddie, our other diabetic monkey, and the two girls take care of each other and enjoy grooming time. During the afternoon, the two girls play with Gizmo and Jimmy-but more likely than not, the girls can only take only so much of the boys' shenanigans and usually go off by themselves toward the end of the day. Connie loves to play dress up with hats and carries her play cell phone around by her tail. She also is very proper, preferring to drink out of a cup and washing her treats and toys in the automatic waterer.
