CORKY

Corky, a five-year-old male white-faced capuchin has had quite a history! He was kept as a pet in a birdcage and his "owners" were practically starving him. He had no available food or water in his cage and also had no form of enrichment. Corky's human father saw heard about Jungle Friends when he saw Kari on the news in Las Vegas. He called her to take him. When Kari picked Corky up, he was so weak from malnourishment and his bones had atrophied from disuse that his little legs would not support him-he could barely even stand up!

Kari was doubtful that he would even survive, but she was not about to give up on his strong spirit! Today, you would not even recognize Corky as that same fragile, weak monkey! He is one of our largest white-faced capuchins, weighing in at 8 pounds! Corky is a "happy-go-lucky" man. He does still exhibit behaviors remnant of his past however-for example, he holds his food carefully and slowly nibbles bite by bite-to be sure he doesn't drop any. In the wild, it is natural for monkeys to take a bite out of something and then drop it, to help rejuvenate the forest and to feed terrestrial animals. Not Corky…he received so little food that he cherished every morsel. Corky has been housed with Kelli since early 1999, and the two have taken on a "brother-sister" relationship and Dodger was recently introduced to the duo and we are happy to report that they are all getting on famously!
