EBI

Ebi, an ex-pet weeper capuchin, arrived at Jungle Friends in March of 2003, after enacting an escape and recapture drama in Louisiana. Not much is known about his previous "owners" except that they removed almost all of his teeth, and eventually abandoned him. His transfer to Jungle Friends, orchestrated by local animal rescuers, was in the works...but apparently Ebi felt it would be better to make a run for it - even in near-freezing temperatures -- rather than trust his future to people.

At Jungle Friends, Ebi was originally socialized with Jimmy Sr. and Chi Chi, but as the boys' relationship turned toward rivalry rather than friendly bonding it was clear that the group was not melding into a happy family as hoped. Then it was discovered that Ebi and Mickey, a neighboring white-faced capuchin, had a mutual inclination to make friends. Mickey is one of Jungle Friends "bad boys"; attempts to socialize him with his own species had failed because Mickey wouldn't play nice. But surprisingly, Ebi and Mickey hit it off. Occasionally they feel compelled to do a little bit of guy-type posturing and name calling, but the mutual play, wrestling and grooming that happens in between tells the real story. These two boys, at odds with the world, are happy to find a good buddy of their own, at last.

Ebi gets back on his feet
