GUSSIE

Gussie is a 32-year old cinnamon capuchin who recently arrived to Jungle Friends with Joni, her daughter. Gussie and Joni previously resided in Canada, with their human mom, Virginia, who rescued them from a precarious situation two years ago. Virginia was moving to Florida, and found Jungle Friends in hopes that her girls could stay close to her. The monkeys’ immigration into the country from Canada turned into an extremely complicated situation, but thankfully, with the help of our vet, Dr. Bobby Collins and the University of Miami, Joni and Gussie were able to make Jungle Friends their new home.

Before their arrival however, the monkeys were required to be quarantined. Toward the end of her quarantine, Gussie refused to eat and lost nearly half of her body weight. When she and Joni finally arrived to Jungle Friends, Gussie was extremely weak and anemic. But, with good food and lots of TLC, Gussie pulled through and is now once again the wild thing that she is! Despite her age, Gussie is full of spunk and attitude, which explains where little Joni gets it! Gussie is a great mother to Joni, and the two are enjoying their new home. Gussie loves to dig in the dirt and forage in the grass in her habitats. We are hoping to soon socialize Joni and Gussie with Chi Chi, our other elderly cinnamon capuchin who also happens to be full of spunk and vitality!
