October 26, 2008 - Inside Edition Tuesday, art exhibit and monkey updates

Dear Friends of Jungle Friends,

Wow, so much has gone on in the past few weeks I hardly know where to begin. Well, let me begin with our newest monkey arrivals Dharma and Darwin. I would tell you all about the little darlings, but that would spoil their television debut that will air on Inside Edition this Tuesday, October 28, 2008. Yes, that's right: Dharma and Darwin were filmed first at their prior home in Michigan and then during their release at Jungle Friends in Florida. Please watch Inside Edition Tuesday and let me know what you think. Meanwhile, you can read more about these two on our website.

I also have wonderful news about the baby monkeys, Abby and Jak, who arrived last August - they are doing just great! Both are off baby formula and have healthy appetites. Both have turned into monkeys right before our eyes. Watching their wild antics and rowdy play is so amusing that it is difficult to tear yourself away. To see what I mean, go to Monkey Movies on the website and watch 'Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy' for a good chuckle!

Speaking of Abby, she was one of the featured artists in the Monkey Art Exhibit that just opened in Havana, Florida. The exhibit is the most successful to date: on opening night we received nearly $1,500 in donations and they are still coming in. Monkey Art is all the rage! For the person who has everything, Monkey Art makes a thoughtful and unusual gift.

The monkey art exhibit runs though December.

Many thanks to Terri and Joy of Light N Up Art Co-op and Studios in Havana, Florida for hosting the exhibit!

Good friends for a good cause:
Carleen, Donna, Diane, Anne, Sally and Debbie enjoy the fruits of their labor at the Art Exhibit opening night reception.

Now, I know that most of you reading this are thinking, "Gosh, I sure would like to put on a Monkey Art Exhibit for Jungle Friends, if I only knew how." I have good news for you. Donna is anxious to share her exhibit-planning experience and help others bring monkey art to their home town. So, just let me know that you would like to fundraise for the monkeys, and I will hook you up with Donna. Thank you Donna, you're the best!

On a more serious note, I must ask for your help and support for the monkeys during this time of economic stress. We are fighting hard to maintain what we have built. Over the years, you have shown us how many of you care deeply about the plight of captive primates. In response, we have expanded to offer an enriching home and lifetime care to as many unfortunate monkeys as we can. Now, for the first time in the history of Jungle Friends, the level of donations is declining, while our expenses have steadily increased as we have grown.

I realize that many of us are suffering financially right now and we are all learning new and innovative ways to cut back on spending. Please realize that your donations to Jungle Friends make a very real difference; now more than ever the monkeys need your continued support - and even more, we need your help to find other good people like yourselves who will help us continue our mission.

Please, forward our emails; tell everyone you know about Jungle Friends. Sponsor a monkey, and ask others to sponsor, too. Thank you so much for your past and future support!

Lots of monkey love,
Kari and the monks
