Bessie is a nine-year-old black-tufted-ear marmoset who arrived on June 6, 2009. She had been kept as a pet, but when her ‘owner’ became ill and was hospitalized, Jungle Friends was called for help.
Bessie (named after Bess Truman) is a real sweetie and just gorgeous! She is a plump little girl; you can tell she didn’t miss many meals. However, with all the running around she is doing at Jungle Friends, Miss Bessie will likely be slim and trim in no time.
Bessie settled in very well, and by day two she had mastered the runway system… with the help of applesauce strategically placed along the way. Bessie thoroughly enjoys the liberty of going inside or outside at her leisure. She especially enjoys climbing the trees and balancing on the banana plants, which she has found to be quite tasty — but not quite as tasty as the bugs that live in the shrubbery. Bessie’s habitat is right next door to the “bachelor pad” occupied by Gizmo, Arnold and Ernie Keebler, who seem quite taken with this voluptuous beauty.
