Charlie is a tufted capuchin, estimated to have been born in the late 1980's and arriving at Jungle Friends on April 8th, 2005. Captured in the rainforest as a youngster, Charlie was exported to the US and sold into research where he lived for nearly two decades. Fortunately, after the research program ended, Charlie and with eight other tufted capuchins were retired to Jungle Friends.

Charlie and his monkey friends were housed separately in the laboratory, living indoors in a sterile environment. Here at Jungle Friends, they all enjoy large, naturalistic outdoor habitats. Charlie is far more relaxed now than when he first arrived at Jungle Friends but there are times he does become very upset, usually when people are too near. Jungle Friends staff keep intrusions to a minimum and allow Charlie to bond with his monkey friends.
