Cooper

Cooper Cooper is a 10-year-old black tufted-ear marmoset who arrived at Jungle Friends from Michigan on November 9, 2006. A film crew from National Geographic was here to film Cooper’s arrival and introduction to Miko, another marmoset, for a 12-part series on ‘pets’ that will air next year.

Cooper and Miko When Cooper arrived she was breathing heavily, which we originally thought to be stress from the long drive and new surroundings or the fact that she is a bit chubby. However, her check up at the Vet School revealed that Cooper’s ribs were pressing on her lung which causes the heavy breathing. She also has a problem with her spine which is causing her head to tilt, and her liver is in the wrong place. Our veterinarians feel that with a good diet, sunshine and another monkey to play with, she will still live a full life.

Although Cooper is a bit shaky on the perches and doesn’t run and jump like the other monkeys, she gets around quite well and is a ‘champion eater’! Miko welcomed her into his home with a very nice grooming session and they both snuggle together in their cube at night to go to sleep.
