Freyja is an elderly cotton-top tamarin who arrived at Jungle Friends on September 19, 2009. Freyja was retired from laboratory research in 2008. Jungle Friends also took in cotton-tops from the lab, but Freyja and her companion originally went to a sanctuary in Texas. However, her companion died of old age, leaving Freyja alone.
Fortunately for Freyja, one of the Jungle Friends tamarins found himself in the same situation. Tripoli was alone and lonely after the recent loss of his long-time companion, Volcano. With two elderly tamarins each in need of a friend, it was clear that a little match-making was in order. Before long, Freyja embarked on a 17-hour journey to connect with her “blind date.”
Freyja and Tripoli were situated in neighboring habitats for about a week before they were formally introduced. These two old folks must have realized they had no time to waste. Upon meeting, the new couple was practically inseparable – traveling through the runways, hunting insects and enjoying lengthy grooming sessions together.
Be sure to watch the video of the day they met…
