Kilroy is a squirrel monkey estimated to be in his late teens. He arrived at Jungle Friends in March of 2005 after he was retired from research. His monkey companions Bowser, Skeeter and Herbie also accompanied him. They joined Buddy, Moses, Gilbert and Howard, who are also ex-lab squirrel monkeys that had been retired to Jungle Friends a few months earlier.
After living alone in small cages in the laboratory, Kilroy and his friends immediately took to their larger habitats, particularly those outdoors. It was simply a joy to see Kilroy and his friends finally feel the wind and the sun and to climb trees and plants instead of stainless steel and plastic. Kilroy is very expressive both vocally and non-vocally. He will run up to one of his neighbors, display what seems to be a surprised expression, and screech a short but loud greeting. He also spends much time exploring his surroundings and playing with his friend Herbie.
