Lucy, a weeper capuchin, came to Jungle Friends in the early spring of 2005, and is estimated to be 18-20 years old. She had been state's evidence in Tennessee for four years, living with a caregiver associated with the local Humane Society. This came about after authorities raided a building where many abused animals were warehoused in criminal conditions. Most of the animals were found dead or dying. Somehow Lucy survived, fortunately Lucy's abuser is in jail!
Lucy has an amputated tail and several missing toes because she was diagnosed with Lupus. Since coming to Jungle Friends, there have been no further signs of Lupus and Lucy appears healthy and happy. The sores that had been associated with Lupus may have been self-mutilation, small wonder given Lucy's history. Lucy is a quiet monkey and very friendly. Now she lives with Marvin a fellow weeper capuchin. Together they groom each other and play, adapting well to their new home at Jungle Friends.
