Lucy

Lucy Lucy, a weeper capuchin, came to Jungle Friends in the early spring of 2005, and is estimated to be 18-20 years old. She had been state's evidence in Tennessee for four years, living with a caregiver associated with the local Humane Society. This came about after authorities raided a building where many abused animals were warehoused in criminal conditions. Most of the animals were found dead or dying. Somehow Lucy survived, fortunately Lucy's abuser is in jail!

Lucy eating Lucy has an amputated tail and several missing toes because she was diagnosed with Lupus. Since coming to Jungle Friends, there have been no further signs of Lupus and Lucy appears healthy and happy. The sores that had been associated with Lupus may have been self-mutilation, small wonder given Lucy's history. Lucy is a quiet monkey and very friendly.

For her first four years at Jungle Friends, Lucy lived with Marvin, a fellow weeper capuchin. They were a lovely couple! They enjoyed grooming each other, and in spite of their advanced age they loved to play together. Sadly, Marvin died in April 2009. Not long afterward, Lucy was diagnosed with cancer and we feared we would soon lose her, as well. To our delight, Lucy rallied and is still going strong. She has been introduced to two other fun-loving old folks, Cappy and Puchi. The trio continues to live life to the fullest in the "geriatric ward."
