Miko is a black tufted-ear marmoset who arrived at Jungle Friends on September 19, 2006 when he was just a few years old. He was found running loose in San Mateo, California, where ‘pet’ monkeys are illegal. He was confiscated by the Peninsula Humane Society and later placed here at the sanctuary.
Miko is smaller than the other marmosets in Munchkin Land and he is missing most of his tail. We were told that Miko was not kept in a cage, but allowed to roam the neighborhood running free, which is how he was attacked by an animal that chewed off most of his tail. Even though marmosets do not have prehensile tails, their tails are very important for balance.
Miko settled in here at Jungle Friends very well. He enjoys his outdoor habitat, and the antics of his neighbors, Dodger and Isabelle, who are also marmosets. Best of all, Miko loves his new companion, Zima, a retired lab monkey who arrived on August 11, 2007.
