Molly is a black-handed spider monkey who arrived at Jungle Friends on July 8, 2006 with her brother Mike when they were about 11 years old. Molly and Mike were being kept as ‘pets’ in South Florida and after a horrific hurricane season that tore up their habitats more than once, the ‘owners’ decided that they could no longer care for them and Jungle Friends was called.
Mike and Molly’s new home at Jungle Friends is the largest habitat to date. It is called the “Thunder Dome” and is 30’ x 60’ x 24’ high, equipped with lots of trees and shrubs, ropes and barrels, hammocks and toys. Mike and Molly are very curious and have investigated every inch of their new digs. They are situated near the squirrel monkeys’ indoor building, Jody’s Jungle, and whenever one of the caregivers are inside feeding little Curri, Molly is watching intently; she doesn’t miss much.
Molly is diabetic, but controlled by medication, and Mike is the picture of health. Both have settled in very well in their new environment and are anxious to meet the other spider monkeys. We plan to socialize Mike and Molly with Goldie, Clydette, Travis, Udi and Lizzy, the other spider monkeys living here at Jungle Friends.
