Spunky is a white-faced capuchin monkey that arrived at Jungle Friends with his companion Bonnie, another white-faced capuchin, on March 29, 2005 when he was 7 years old. Spunky and Bonnie were 'pet' monkeys and ended up at Jungle Friends when they escaped their cage and terrorized the housekeeper. A law suite and $40,000 later, the monkeys came to live at Jungle Friends. White-faced capuchins seem to be even more territorial and aggressive than other monkey species.
Spunky is very enthusiastic, and when he gets keyed up, his vocalizations can be heard throughout the sanctuary, especially when he gets his neighbor, Ernie, to join in the song. When Spunky sees someone he really likes, he dances and spins in circles; he is quite spirited.
Spunky and Bonnie spend most of their days playing in their spacious habitat. They love to play in the trees, swinging from the ropes and chasing each other around, hiding from one another in the lush foliage. Spunky enjoys foraging through the earth and finding yummy tidbits in the ground. They also spend a lot of time grooming each other. They are a lovely couple.
