Chiquita was born in 1973 and was sold to a couple who kept her as a “pet” for over 40 years. The last 25 years of her life Chiquita became more unmanageable and lived alone in their backyard in a small cage. When her guardian passed, his daughters contacted Jungle Friends in hopes of finding a permanent home for Chiquita with other monkeys. Kari and Claude drove the 6 hours to bring her to her new home at the sanctuary.

Chiquita was favoring one leg and had a lot of difficulty walking and her vet visit revealed metabolic bone disease and arthritis. Chiquita was introduced to another elderly monkey named Puchi, a favorite here at the sanctuary! Chiquita is a champion eater, most days you can find her snacking, exploring her habitat and taking monkey naps in the sun. The two settle down at night to sleep together both wrapped in their blankets.
