Jasper was an infant, just 12 weeks old, when he arrived at the sanctuary. He was torn from his mother's arms and sold into the exotic pet trade when he was only days old. We are not sure how many homes Jasper has had, but we know that he was traded in a used car deal and then given to a teenager as a gift. The teen had little time for a baby monkey, so most of Jasper’s time was spent in a small crate crying for attention.

Being so young, Jasper required round-the-clock supervision and bottle feeding. Each day he was introduced to his outdoor habitat, he enjoyed exploring, but was never far from his caregiver who was there for support as he grew braver and braver. After several weeks, when he was comfortable with his surroundings we introduced him to ChiChi, a lone female squirrel monkey. She has become a wonderful surrogate monkey mom to baby Jasper! Now Jasper’s days are filled with romp and play with ChiChi, chasing bugs, and racing through the runways from his indoor to his outdoor habitat. The other female squirrel monkey neighbors are all very interested in his wild antics.
