SCOOTER

Scooter came to Jungle Friends on July 1, 1996, when he was about 6 years old. Scooter has many admirers, non-human and human primates alike, and maybe the most handsome capuchin in the world! His only physical flaws are a scar above his eye and one on his knee. The origin of these scars is unknown - the only thing we know about Scooter's past is that as a "pet" he was tied by a leash to a sofa and teased by children.

Scooter is now prone to anxiety attacks, imagine that! With any disturbance, whether it is a loud noise or some other stressful situation, he begins rocking and pacing. Scooter actually used to pass out from stress, which caused us great alarm, this has not happened since we have been in Gainesville. Scooter is thought to be the smartest monkey here at Jungle Friends, and so he becomes bored easily. Scooter is provided with numerous enrichments daily to keep him physically and mentally stimulated. He loves tools, in fact he has his own hammer, and spends much of his time taking things apart (toys, his cage!) and attempting to put them back together. He also loves to untie volunteers' shoelaces; he probably knows how to re-tie them but doesn't want us to know that! Scooter lives with Billy, Rosie and Pickles and enjoys his position as the dominant male - he definitely keeps the others in their places! Scooter has many titles - besides being the most handsome and the smartest, he is also the most vocal and displays the most facial expressions. The first and loudest noise you will hear when you are within view, especially with a good treat, is his deafening "hello!"
