Special Volunteer Day April 4th and 5th 2009
In April 2009, over the course of two days, Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary hosted 25 members of UF's Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, 4 interns from Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, and the former "owners" of our newest marmoset - all of whom were non-vegetarian!
These volunteers assisted us in building new habitats, landscaping, painting buildings, and chopping fresh produce for our monkeys. For lunch both days, we prepared a vegan cookout with beer brats and Italian sausage dogs off the grill, corn on the cob, pasta salad, hearty chili, and fresh fruit salad. To finish it off, dessert was delicious vanilla soy ice cream cones!

Danielle, another Jungle Friends intern, leads the group in a
produce chop-a-thon!

Most of the frat boys had never used a lawnmower, but they
caught on pretty quick.

After a hard day of work, the crew is ready to eat!

Volunteers try vegan hot dogs and soy ice cream for the first time, to rave reviews!

Jungle Friends and Big Cat Rescue workers dig in to the feast...
|
...down to the very last hot dog!

The vegan food was a huge success and inspired dialogue not only with the fraternity members, but with the interns from Big Cat Rescue.
