The Tamarins Are Here!

We are excited to welcome the new residents of Tamarin Town: five pairs of cotton-top tamarins who arrived at Jungle Friends on July 14, 2008 from a research laboratory.

Read more about all our new arrivals below, and please help us provide for their ongoing lifetime care by sponsoring a retired tamarin today!

Volcano and Tripoli

Volcano Volcano is a skinny little thing and has a small face. Her cotton top is relatively flat and her eyes are round and a little bit big bug-eyed. She is very enthusiastic about food and quite outgoing.
tripoli Tripoli is a bit larger and fluffier than Volcano. He is a sweet boy and usually waits for Volcano to take food first. Tripoli and Volcano were the first to venture down the long runways in Tamarin Town to explore their new outdoor habitat. They love it!

Gatsby and Hershey

Gatsby Gatsby is a girl with a big appetite! She will eat just about anything put in front of her. She is quite friendly... especially if visitors bring food!
Hershey Hershey may be the cutest tamarin in the world! He loves his peanuts, and is an expert at cracking them and maneuvering them out of his treat holder. He is also outgoing and very sweet. Hershey's diet is monitored closely since he was diabetic. However, he has been testing negative for the past two years.

Chopin and Nicor

Chopin Chopin is quite a large girl and she loves her food. She is friendly and has a very beautiful full cotton-top.
Nicor Nicor is more reserved and will give you a good tongue flick if he disapproves of your presence. He is missing a foot, toes, and most of his tail. To compensate, he has developed large biceps and gets around his enclosure easily.

Xena and Monet

Xena Xena is a large tamarin, but she used to be much larger. She has been plagued with chronic diarrhea, and has lost quite a bit of weight as a result. While generally outgoing, Xena will give you a good frown if you look at her for too long.
Monet Monet is a sweet little man, much smaller than his companion, Xena. He is outgoing and very interested in food. He loves to play with little twigs.

Ashley and Odin

Ashley Ashley is an elderly tamarin. We are told that, at 26 years old, she is the oldest cotton-top on record. Ashley is quite reserved in her old age, but she will do just about anything for her special treats. She still has a lot of spunk!
Odin Odin is shy and very sensitive to unusual things in his environment: something as simple as a funny shadow or unexpected noise might upset him. His vision is quite limited, but he is still able to navigate his enclosure just fine. Odin has a pink face, and is missing his tail.
