Udi

Udi Udi is a Peruvian spider monkey who came to Jungle Friends on May 16, 2004 when he was 14 months old. A year earlier, when he was only 2 months old, Udi had been discovered in a cold New York City basement, where his 'owner' had left him alone, hungry and helpless. Udi was rescued by well-meaning people who tried to care for him, but unfortunately did not know how to provide for a baby monkey's needs. After living for a year with his human surrogate mother in a New York apartment, Udi was suffering from severe metabolic bone disease.

Udi When Udi arrived at Jungle Friends, he could not stand or walk. He weighed only 4 pounds, and his legs were badly bowed. He had disease in his joints, malformed wrists, and a terrible overbite. Udi's stunted growth and bone disease resulted from a deficiency of calcium and vitamin D due to poor diet and lack of sunlight.

Udi took his first steps soon after his arrival at the sanctuary. Before long he was swinging from the trees and basking in the sun. When Udi's bones grew stronger, he was introduced to the adult spider monkeys. They get along fine, but never was there a happier day in Udi's life than when he met Lizzy, another spider monkey near his own age. These two youngsters play so much it will wear you out just watching their antics!! Udi has stolen everyone's heart -- especially Lizzy's!
