Angel

  • Species: Brown Capuchins (Cebus apella)
  • Gender: Male
  • Birthday: January 1, 1985
  • Arrival: April 6, 2005
  • Background: Research
  • Character: Playful

Angel was captured in the rainforest as a youngster and stolen from his family and from the freedom of his native home. Angel was exported to the US where he was sold into research where he spent nearly two decades in a small lab cage -- all alone.

Fortunately, after the iron toxicity studies ended, Angel and eight other capuchins were retired to Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary. Now the retirees enjoy large, naturalistic outdoor habitats and have each other to play with. It is a joy watching Angel jump and climb from tree to tree, as he and his monkey friends enjoy their new larger lives here at Jungle Friends. Angel is a bit shy, still wary of humans, but was eager to make monkey friends. Angel loves the outdoors and is often seen bouncing through the grass or digging in the dirt with his sweet monkey companion.
