Mario arrived at Jungle Friends when he was two years old after being caught by the authorities when he was running loose in Jacksonville, Florida. After Mario was captured, the authorities discovered that he was being kept illegally and had no cage. Mario was held in protective custody at Jungle Friends until the courts decided his fate. Unfortunately, monkeys are legal 'pets' in Florida, so the guardian had a right to reclaim Mario – all he needed to do was take a test, get a license and build a cage. Sadly, a cage for two capuchin monkeys is only required to be 6' x 8' x 6', very small considering a monkey can jump about 20' and prefers living high up in the trees! Fortunately for Mario, the guardian could not pass the test and he was allowed to remain at the sanctuary. Mario is quite rambunctious and just wants to play! Luckily, he met Tessa, a girl after his own heart. Be sure to watch their first meeting in our video titled “Brown Capuchin Romance”, it will warm your heart!
