Zaney arrived with a group of capuchins rescued from a bankrupt roadside zoo. We knew the group included a nursing mother and infant, but they were part of a family group occupying a single habitat, so it sounded like a simple rescue. Then things got complicated! Three of the monkeys arrived pregnant. After Elizabeth gave birth to Gavin, Zaney assumed the position of Aunt Zaney to baby Gavin. Thank goodness, because Elizabeth became very ill and was away from Zaney and Gavin convalescing in the on-site clinic. While she was in the clinic she met Jersey, and the two became fast friends. Jersey is an amputee, but you would never know it to watch he and Elizabeth race around their habitat. Now Zaney is full-time mom to Gavin, even though he is all grown up, he is always at her side.
