After years in a research cognition laboratory, Auric found sanctuary at Jungle Friends!  He came to us after he was demoted from his place as the alpha male of the group and began to self-attack.  He was a burley and handsome boy with an often furrowed brow and a thoughtful, expressive countenance. Auric wasted no time exploring the great outdoors for the first time.  He delighted in romping in his habitat and loved the attention from his caregivers.  Auric especially enjoyed treats and was an expert at cracking nuts and pumpkin “carving.”

Sadly on February 26, 2014, dear Auric passed away. He began to experience multiple seizures and could not overcome them.  He died from hepatic encephalopathy. We are not sure of the cause, but we do know that the large doses of anti-anxiety medication he was on prior to arrival here may have contributed if his liver was already compromised.

Auric was only with us for a short time – not even a year – but we are so privileged to have shared those months of sunshine, fresh air and relative freedom with him.

Rest in peace, Auric.  There are no cages in your heaven.
