From birth Fiona had a happy, soft, positive personality and was a social butterfly with her caregivers. She loved to watch us go about our daily duties and when she wanted our attention or we looked in her direction she would wiggle her ears to catch and hold our glance. She lived in the lab and at Jungle Friends with her lifelong friends Ingrid, Blue, Georgia, Greta, Magy, Tilda, and Hana. She was especially close to Georgia and Tilda and the three were often seen napping together midday after hectic mornings spent eating, playing, and socializing.  Oranges were one of Fiona’s favorite foods and she ate them with gusto as you can see in the picture. In early July Fiona was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer that was not treatable and would shorten her life significantly.  Throughout her 14 years I loved her, protected her, and did everything possible to give her a long and enriched life.  It was a deep heartbreak when we said goodbye on August 8th.  The years I shared with Fiona will remain with me and I’ll keep her close in mind and heart by recalling memories of her wiggling those adorable ears when we looked into each others eyes.

I wholeheartedly thank Fiona’s dedicated caregivers at JF who loved her, fussed over her, and gave her the intensive care she needed during this illness to live a good life as long as possible.

Fiona’s lifelong caregiver-guardian
